Its September the 8th, waiting for my girl friend's usual 9:30 PM call I have just finished to complete "The Other Side of me" just in the nick of time.
For those who haven't heard this book's name it gives me a great honor to tell that this is the autobiography of the greatest and my most admired English novelist of all, "Sidney Sheldon".
I was truely amazed to see a person of his stature go through so many ups and downs in life that I hardly believe that the hardships we face in our daily lives is anything comparable to him.
Its true we admire a person whom we see under the limelight or on the silver screen, but how many times have we thought of what it takes to be be there? Its true that neither name nor fame comes easily to anyone(read if u start from scratch) but it is amazing to know what it takes to know what it takes to get it, sorry acquire it!!
I have heard people reach the zenith of thei domain but definitely its more amazing when you come to know the full story specially like the one Sidney Sheldon has narrated about himself.
Being an ardent follower of his novels (till now having read 10 of them and counting) and also getting a chance to see one of his television series "I dream of Jeannie" I feel more and more a patriot of his novel and screenplay writing skills. Although he is no more in this world today, but still I feel, his charm and way of story writing would continue to make his fan list bigger and bigger!!

How to influence people to work in your favor
Very recently I had an experience that would make me say “how I influenced someone to work in my favor”. An ideal flat mate of mine (…read a pukka teetotaler with no drinking, smoking or tea sipping habits) who had been chiding me for quite some time for my occasional drinking sprees and who had vowed never to touch drinks in his life had actually went to the liquor shop and got a bottle of whisky for me. I had only said to him that he lacked guts to do so and he would be laughed at if he joins the armed services and said no to drinking (no offence meant for those who do not drink in spite of being in the armed forces. This guy is actually planning to be in this profession). This was not the only thing. I actually had to remind him again n again what I had already said. Continuous pestering is always needed to get something actually if u don’t get it easily. “Zidd karo…Duniya badlo” as the good old wording of Dainik Jagran says….does seem to be true leave aside whether it’s a right or a wrong reason.
The epilogue has been that he has vowed once again not to bring liquor again in his life for someone…and it has given me another challenge to prove him wrong

Why should I VOTE ????????
The General Elections are already round the corner and every political party big or small, national or regional is trying to woo the voter in every possible way. Better livelihood , better security, additional perks such as free electricity, free T.V sets and even rice at a minimal price etc etc.
So I thought let’s just justify my right to vote for anyone of them. And the reasons are:
1. To exercise the right to franchise afterall it is not prerogative a particular section of the society (In other words to save your RIGHT from getting snatched rather than enjoying and using it). Also it comes once in every five years (if everything goes ok), so what if u expedite a little time of yours in going to the polling station once.
2. Make good of the Holiday by keeping away from hassles of Office and Home.
3. To elect a leader whom you think should do good to the society and mankind rather than someone wrong damaging it or interested in meeting only his ends. Although the late BJP leader Mr. Pramod Mahajan had rightly said that these days we have the choice to choose a bad leader from the worse ones mostly.
4. Giving a chance to let the party of my choice to come to power and see that they walk the talk as was mentioned in their election manifestos.

Delhi 6: A lil review from my side!!
Just that day I got a chance to watch “delhi 6” for a late night show at one of the theatres close by my home. The first thought crossing my mind an hour after watching the movie was what was the director trying to make? To me it just looked like a story whose pace was flat with no ups or downs. I mean anyone who has lived in a Metro knows there are always some bully cop roaming down the muhalla with a stick in hand with an aura of an SP who always knows who the real culprit is and how to catch him. Or a cow giving birth to a calf in middle of a road and people gather all around it and bring the whole traffic to a halt.
Rekeysh Omprakash Mehra has tried to make a similar kind of movie viz a vaz “Rang De Basanti” this time with a backdrop of the unforgettable monkey man menace that happened to be in Delhi a few years back. With an anxiety as well as a excitement to be a part of it (whichever it may be). And suddenly halfway down the story the director thinks to give a twist by promoting the message of communal harmony.
An entire song was dedicated to Massaki the kabutar(pigeon) ; but the director never mentions about the famous kabutarbazis taking place in Delhi.
And finally I could not understand if Abhishek Bachan and Sonam Kapoor were friends till almost the end of the film then why did Abhishek not acknowledge his love for her until the end.
Athough Abhishek and Sonam had put up good performances as expected but I guess in the end the viewer would at least try to know the answer this question, as to whether the theme of the movie was to show life in a metro or a love story or how people should try to live with communal harmony. Indeed hard to find the director’s mind.

We are a Republic so….
A day before yesterday I was watching the Republic Day parade on the National television. Different Regiments of the armed forces marching past the podium with the President taking the salute. An occasion that has been seen year over year and still it doesn’t grow old at all. A time that fills every Indian’s heart with a sense of pride. An occasion to celebrate the “Right to Freedom” as a human being of an independent country.
But wait a second…….. Do we really follow the real meaning of a Republic always? Can anyone remember what was beamed across all the major news channels just that night preceding the Republic day??? A large mob of goons belonging to the so called “Sri Ram Sene” (read upholders of our rich cultural heritage) attacked a local pub in Mangalore, tore apart the clothes of ladies and even tried to molest them. If that was not enough calling those prostitutes or whores would have surely done the trick for them to infuse among the people a sense of being an ardent follower of our great cultural values. It just goes on to show how republic we are!!!
Where has this thing being written that drinking or dancing is banned until you are not breaking the law of the land. Incidents like these cannot be called less than an act of blatant Indian Talibanization. In plain words a diktat good or bad imposed by a few people that must be followed or you are at your own peril. But still we call ourselves a Republic!!
One should remember that our strength lies in our freedom to live the way we want and not through a doctrine of someone else. Until and unless we uphold this principle no matter how many more Republic Days we celebrate it would just be a yearly ritual rather than something we really walk the talk.
